| When
the company first launched its engineering
installations business (JLJ
Engineering Services) in a 2000 sq
ft workshop space in Ashton-in-Makerfield,
its core business was the design, supply
and installation of large steam raising
projects, complete with ancillary equipment
and pipework services, the UK wide corrugator
industry.
The company then expanded its core
business to include air conditioning
(now under JLJ Engineering Services
Limited) offering complete design and
installation packages. An impressive
client list
includes Granada Television in Manchester
whose studios and control rooms are
both designed and installed to critical
standards.
Seven years ago, the company realised
that there was a need to resolve environmental
issues within the corrugator industry.
This took Lance James, the Managing
Director, to America to find the best
industrial effluent treatment equipment
from a country which by then was way
ahead of Europe in terms of waste legislation.
It was in Chicago that he found the
perfect solution in the Alar Auto Vac
system from Alar Engineering Corporation
of Chicago. JLJ Engineering Services
Limited became the sole agents for Alar,
providing sales, installation, maintenance
and back up service in the UK and Europe.
Over the last ten years the company
has looked to expand into completely
new markets and formed a group of companies
under the JLJ Holdings umbrella. The
effluent side of the company now operates
under JLJ Effluent
Engineering Limited and has signed
a Licence Agreement with Alar to manufacture
its complete range of effluent plants
for sales to the UK and European markets.
Mr Peter Platt, Group Director and Operational
Director for the effluent business is
delighted with the agreement. "We
now have the ability to respond more
rapidly to the needs of the market with
shorter delivery times,"
says Peter. "This
together with our established capability
in system design allows us to provide
individually tailored plants, which
meets customers' specific requirements
on time and budget."
As it offered such an impressive waste
water treatment solution, JLJ was approached
by the Local Government who were looking
to set up an environmental solutions
service with the goal of cleaning up
the environment both in the UK and abroad.
The company accepted the invitation
to become one of the founder members
of Envirolink Northwest Limited, working
under the guidance of the North West
Development Agency (WDA).
The company then turned its attention
to the air born pollution market with
its acquisition of Morfa Electronics
Limited, which specialises in Bio-Gas
combustion equipment and offers full
turnkey operation, design and installation
of packaged units with full servicing
and maintenance facilities.
Despite success in targeting ever more
modem technology towards an ever changing
industry, Managing Director Lance James
attributes the successful expansion
of the company to dedicated team effort.
"It is
team work" he says
"that
has underlined every aspect of JLJ's
progress so far and remains very much
the key to a promising future."
